Prayer for Protection of Those in Military Service
God of Love and Compassion, we ask for your protection for those being sent near and far, perhaps to be placed in harm's way. Before this season of conflict, we had grown comfortable with thinking of them only as they relate to us--as our parents and spouses, sons and daughters, neighbors and friends. Lord, today history and circumstances force us to release them into your care and into our country's service. We pray for their safe return, and not only for theirs, bur for the safe return of others being sent from families and communities in other parts of the world. As they face monumental challenges and decisions each moment, may they be anchored by their faith, protected by your presence, and comforted in knowing that they are loved by you and by your presence, and comforted in knowing that they are loved by you and by this community of faith at King's Way. We bless them in your name and yearn for the day of their return, through Jesus Christ our Lord, the Prince of Peace. Prayer for Those Who Wait at Home
O God of Peace, calm us who wait and watch, as events beyond our power and understanding unfold. Deliver us from fear that paralyzes our ability to seek faithfully the ways you would have us be your presence to our children and families, our friends and neighbors. Help us to dwell in your presence one moment at a time and to know that you are ceaselessly at work in our lives and in the world, to bring your reign of peace on earth. In Jesus' name. Amen Copyright 2003, Rev. Katie Long, Use with permission.
Reflections & Prayer for Peace Amid Conflict in the World
God says, 'When they call me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble.' Psalm 91:15
As in baptism we put on Christ, so in Christ may we endure danger and separation in hope and love. Lord, be our companion.
As God so loved the world in Christ, so may the love of God guide our actions, even in combat and war's uncertainty. Lord, be our companion.
As God cares for the poor and innocent, so many nations engaged in conflict deflect harm from children, the vulnerable, and the wounded. Lord, be our companion.
As Jesus said, 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world fives,' so may we extend peace to our enemies without hatred. Lord, be our companion.
As Jesus calls his church to be peacemakers, so may we look beyond this time of war to a world where weapons are converted to tools for growing food and materials for the rebuilding of homes and cities. Lord, be our companion.
As in the new Jerusalem every tear will be wiped away and death will be no more, so may we yearn for a time we not more participate in anyone's grief or dying.
